Artificial intelligence integration and student learning outcomes at Palompon institute of technology

Abstract: 
This study examines the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and their influence on students’ learning experiences, challenges, and ethical perceptions at the Palompon Institute of Technology. A descriptive–quantitative research design was employed using a stratified random sample of students across academic disciplines. A total of 100 student respondents participated in the study. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, Chi-square test, and Phi coefficient. Findings revealed that AI tools are widely used, with 75% of students engaging regularly, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT emerging as the most preferred platform. AI utilization was associated with improved conceptual understanding, faster task completion, and enhanced self-paced learning. However, challenges such as poor internet connectivity and concerns regarding the reliability of AI-generated information were also identified. Ethical concerns, particularly plagiarism and reduced critical thinking skills, were likewise evident among respondents. Statistical analysis revealed significant relationships between AI usage and perceived learning benefits (χ² = 6.42, p = 0.011) as well as academic integrity concerns (χ² = 4.87, p = 0.027). The study concludes that while AI enhances learning experiences and academic efficiency, its effective integration in higher education requires improved technological infrastructure, strengthened digital literacy, and clear institutional policies to ensure responsible and ethical use.
