Abstract:
The Prithvi Sukta is a hymn from the Atharva Veda. It offers profound ecological wisdom that is highly relevant to contemporary environmental challenges. This paper explores how the principles embedded in the Prithvi Sukta can inform modern environmental policies and green governance. By examining themes such as the sacred relationship with the earth, interconnectedness of life, sustainable use of resources, and harmony with natural cycles, this paper proposes a comprehensive green governance model. This model blends traditional ecological knowledge with modern sustainability practices. It promotes ethical governance, sustainable development, climate justice, and community participation. Thus, it offers a roadmap for creating policies that are both holistic and sustainable. The paper highlights the practical implications of this approach and suggests strategies for integrating these principles into the environmental governance frameworks at local, national, and global level.
